Topic:
The Privacy Commissioner on the Privacy Act 2020
The new Privacy Act will come into force on 1 December 2020. The Act repeals and replaces the Privacy Act 1993, strengthening privacy protections for individuals and introducing new obligations for agencies that collect personal information. The updated legislation includes a new requirement to report serious privacy breaches to the Privacy Commissioner and gives the Commissioner greater powers to enforce compliance through access directions and compliance notices. Hear from Privacy Commissioner John Edwards, on what the new Privacy Act will mean for businesses and organisations in practice, how the Office of the Privacy Commissioner will be implementing the reforms, the new approach to enforcement and compliance and key areas of focus for the Office over the next 12 months. The event will be followed by networking drinks.
