Defensive Driving: How To Keep PIAs on the Road

In the blink of eye, you could have an accident. You’re behind the wheel, and everything seems to be going fine, but you’ve been driving for a long time and you don’t seem to be getting anywhere. Is there anything worse than working on a privacy impact assessment (PIA) that seems to be going nowhere at an agonizingly slow speed? Then, all of a sudden, you’ve hit an ice patch and lost control! Wheeoo! Wheeoo! Wheeoo! Here comes your boss to investigate the scene and just as you imagined would happen, your PIA is DOA.

In this interactive session, we’ll explore how to avoid PIA-related crashes and fatalities by designing a PIA plan that identifies who should be driving, who your passengers should be, and what road you need to take to reach your destination. This presentation is not “Filling out a PIA Template 101.” Instead, it will focus on demonstrating the importance of planning for the performance of a PIA.

What you’ll take away:
•     The importance of planning for PIAs
•     How to set up your organization for a successful PIA

Panelist:
Kristan Cook, Privacy Officer, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency
